If it isn’t the performance, there must be something else, let’s find out just what that is as AnandTech takes a closer look at the 12MB monstrous, graphics blasting, Canopus Pure3D II. It is a nice card for pre-DX9 but it does consume a lot more power. There is no material that is knowingly illegal here. If I do use the Canopus cards, I’ll be removing the built-in fans on them and using some Arctic Alumina thermal epoxy to affix some heatsinks to them for passive cooling. Heating problem is not too much of a problem since the fan is provided.

PSU designs have changed accordingly over the years: One thing I kept asking myself over and over, from review to review was how is this thing going to perform on a “Classic” Pentium system. I’ve never really been into benchmarks or canopuus, but if anybody is interested and they can tell me how to do it, I’ll run some and post the results.
Other than having to type the path of the new driver all was well and I was re-booting. Should I glue some heatsinks on those Canopus cards and use them?

With things like the included on board fan, TV out, and the full choice of included cables, I would say this was a gamers best bet in a Vooodoo2 card and would recommend it to anyone.
The drivers have their own install program allowing them to be uninstalled easily unlike the competitions use of an inf file which makes you hunt down all the files if you want to uninstall. Paint Shop Pro 3. Overall,if you are looking for one of the best quality Voodoo2, this will be your best candidate. Lets get this baby installed.

The other utility, Application Launcher, which is like the Application bar found in Office97 allows you to set up buttons to launch you games with with custom settings on the Pure 3D II so all your TV out, color depth, gamma, and refresh settings are available for the particular game at the touch of a button. With its thick plastic arms and strongly engineered hinges, the PortaGrip car mount won’t be easily dislodged from a windshield or broken in the automotive environment.

I wouldn’t bother dismembering these cards and just use a V3 honestly, save for games that need earlier Voodoo cards of course.
Return to General Old Hardware. The fact that voodoo2 cards are highly dependent of CPU processors still holds with this card. The good folks at badcaps.
I then fired up Quake 2 and ran timedemo on demo1 and was astonished. I was hoping for a bit more juice out of the U, but I’m definitely satisfied with the Ti for legacy gaming purposes if you all think the U is a bad idea. I’m really looking forward to my new build.
